Excellent. A pursuit for everyone to follow. The author is a true gunfighter.
Uncle Scotty changed me from a struggling shooter with a revolver to an accurate bullseye shooter with less than 10 minutes of instruction & about 30 rounds of ammunition. Yes, he's THAT good. This book contains the lessons gleaned from a highly active career with LAPD. Highly recommended for shooters of all levels. If you can make it to one of Scott's courses your shooting will improve, as will your decision making skills.
Excellent read with content based on experience not theory. Should be on your book shelf if you instruct, carry concealed or are LEO. Makes my top 10 list
Loved the book, great read. I am not much of a book reader but it was more like an instructional guide, biography, and instruction manual all in one. Good read for intellectuals and knuckle draggers alike.
This book should be titled "How to operate a handgun", because that's basically it. The author spends the first third of the book retelling his war stories, after which he eludes to his point about how one must first master firearm basics as a foundation to rely upon in stressful life and death situations. So then the majority of the book goes over the basics of operating a handgun (safety, how to hold it, how to load it, etc.), with some considerations and pictures on how to do some things a little better. However, this is essentially the information that you will find in a firearm owner's manual. I'm disappointed in this book because it costs 3 times as much as similar books and, besides the war stories, it isn't actually about gunfighting.
Simply put, I Loved it!!
I'm a beginner on the world of firearms and needed some reading material to get familiarized with the concepts that pros talk about... That being said, this is no "simple conceptual" book by any means, it's a really well thought book that permeates the experience and advice of a real-life experienced gunfighter with law enforcement background.
I would really recommend this book to everyone, regardless of experience level.. but if you are thinking about getting training with the book's author, Scott Reitz (LAPD SWAT) at ITTS in California... then by all means, the book is a MUST.
Read it, enjoy it, learn from it... and always remember.. Safety comes first!!
As someone who worked as both a police officer and a professional firearms instructor, and having been involved in a use of deadly force, I can say for certain that Scott Reitz has it right in this book. He clearly speaks from experience. There is no glitz or flash or anything "tacticool" in this book, and his emphasis on basics is right on the money.
His chapter on legal issues in deadly force alone is worth the price of the book.
