I was ready for a nice long, well researched, well written historical fiction book and was happily reading away and boom it was over!
It is the first book of Diener's that I have read, and what was there was wonderfully colorful, suspenseful, and from so much of my reading over the last 61 years, pretty good in the historical arena, but BUT it was so short, and over in the flick of a gnats wing! I will be looking her up and finding other books, and hopefully they are longer and as engrossing as this short story was. She is an author going on my likst, Yes I actually have a list of authors, that I will beg, borrow are steal money to buy....(only from the food budget) as I would rather read than eat...Thank you Ms. Diener. I certainly enjoyed my introduction to your writing prowess.

Dangerous Sanctuary Susanna Horenbout and John Parker Series edition by Michelle Diener Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I have read several of her books and somewhat enjoyable. However, her plot and character development are thin.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel, as I find the Elizabethan period fascinating, particularly concerning the intrigues between the Roman Catholic Church and the English monarchy. I thought the characters were well-developed and the story was a page-turner. I was ready to buy the next installment in the series, but the publisher wants $10 per novel for the edition, and that is too much to pay for electronic version, particularly when hard copies are just a few bucks more. If the publisher offered Michelle Diener's books at a more reasonable price, I'd be a regular reader, but as things are I will not read any more of her books.
This series is outstanding!
Michelle Diener has become one of the best authors that can write a very good exciting story. I hope the other books she
has written are as good as the first series.
I like each book I have read by this author. There is intrigue, history and romance all in one book. Frankly, I wish I could find other similar books so if anyone has any suggestions pass them my way. To compare I would say if you like the Lady Julia novels by Deanna Raybourn you will like these although the period of history is different.
Though I'm not sure how well this story would translate for someone who hadn't read In a Treacherous Court, it works quite well as a follow up to that novel. It had enough plot and resolution to feel like a complete episode, even though it was short.
This is a factionalized account of what might have happened at a factual historical event. It is a bridge between the two Susanna & Parker books. With that in mind, I gave it 4 stars because it accomplishes that, but as a stand alone story it is short on plot, character development, the dispensation of the villian through logic is unbelivable and it drags during the search for the villian. I've read and liked other Michelle Diener's books and have not read, though I plan to, the other books in this series so I expect part of my critism would not exist if I'd read the series in sequence.
